President greets Gambia on national day


New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday extended greetings to the government and people of Gambia on their national day.

Gambia observes its national day on February 18.

In a message to Gambia President Sheikh Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, Mukherjee said bilateral cooperation between India and Gambia, especially in trade and development, has expanded steadily over the years and hoped for still better relations with the west African nation.

"On behalf of the government, the people of India and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to convey to you, to the government and the people of the Republic of The Gambia warm greetings and felicitations on the occasion of your national day," Mukherjee said in his message.

"It is a matter of satisfaction that friendly bilateral cooperation between our two countries has expanded steadily, particularly in the areas of trade and development.

"I am confident that the warm bilateral relations between India and The Gambia will further strengthen in the coming years to the mutual benefit of our people," the president added.
