Muscat, Sep 17: The Pangalites in Oman united under the leadership of Oman United Pangalites on the 14th of September to celebrate the feast of Nativity. The celebration took place at Alwyn’s Al Arsalan restaurant at 7.30 p.m.

The programme began with the president, Sunil D’sa  heartily welcoming  the gathering  .He also expressed his gratitude towards all the members for their support and encouragement for organizing this  grand Monthi fest celebration which was organized for the first time exclusively for the Pangalites in Oman .

All the  children gathered around the beautifully decorated bambino of infant Mary and showered flowers as the gathering sang the hymn “Moriyek hogollsiya”. Violet D’costa read the word of God and Sheryl Menezes  offered prayers to the Almighty  after which Novem ,the new harvest of the year was distributed ,and the children were given treat packs.


An enactment of village farmers family from Prakash D’sa, Lata D’sa, Liza D’sa and Shaun Menezes followed by a comment from Lavina D’sa as to how our ancestors struggled to get the new harvest and a plea to keep up our Konkani tradition in the midst of the modernizations won  the appreciation of the people.










The evening was filled with  lots of fun and frolic . Rare games like “tonka ”race , and a version of “modki futovchi ”enthralled the crowd . The children danced to various Konkani and Hindi numbers.  Jovin Menezes,  a well-known personality at the Ghala parish of Oman conducted the Housie-Housie and lucky draw  and the prizes were given away by  Arthur and Remy Lobo.

The anchor of the day  Melwin Menezes  efficiently conducted the whole programme .

The main event  was the sumptuous dinner that was served on banana leaves to the gathering that sat on the floor in the traditional manner. The home cooked dinner included delicacies like alu-deonte, patrade, tendle-chonno, kuvale kadi,alsande ,vorn and lots more reminded most of them about the celebrations held back at home in their families.

The people gathered whole heartedly thanked the members of Oman United Pangalites  for having given them an opportunity to enjoy the traditional Novem jovan and an atmosphere  that made them feel in Pangla  even though in Oman on the occasion of Monthi fest .
