In a letter to Rajnath Singh, Mishra wrote, "Today (Thursday) I got a phone call from telephone number 3844 at 8.48 a.m. on my cell number, wherein a person identifying himself as Pujari threatened me, saying that 'Apni jubaan band rakho varna goli maar denge' (keep your mouth shut else we will shoot you)."

He added that prior to this, there were calls on his phone from various similar numbers including 4432, 3844, 9100, 501 but he did not attend to those calls.
