Beltangady, Sep 18: Torrential rains in the taluk resulted in flash floods at Guruvayankere, near here on Monday September 17 night. As a result several houses of the area were inundated.
The traffic on Mangalore–Dharmasthal route was blocked for 2 hours owing to floods at Jainpet curve, near Guruvayanakere. The houses of M R Jain and Anantharaj Jain, Bunts Bhavan, Jyoti Electricals, Guruvayanakere Dargah were inundated.
The intersection of Beltangady was flooded owing to the absence of drainage facility. The locals including agriculturists were apprehensive over the heavy rains slashing since 4 days all over the taluk.
A car was washed away in a rivulet owing to torrential rains on Friday September 14. The car was taken for washing into the rivulet, when it rained heavily. However, the car was recovered when the locals joined in the effort of pulling the car to safety.
In another incident a student was washed away he tried to cross river on his way to college at Gunduri in Venoor police station limits. The drowned has been identified as Ramesh (19), the only son of Sadhu of Puringedi. Ramesh was the student of Mahavir College Moodbidri.
