Mangaluru, Feb 21: The prime accused in a fake currency racket who was absconding for 10 years has been arrested by the city crime branch (CCB) led by inspector Valentine D'Souza.
Moidin Kunhi alias Moidu (43), a resident of Bellare, Sullia, was arrested at Hunsur in Mysuru district.
In 1999, Moidin was arrested in connection to printing and circulation of fake currency in large quantities in Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod. The case had been registered in Mangaluru north police station. He succeeded in getting bail, but during the trial, he failed to appear in court and went absconding in 2006.
The others who were involved in the case were arrested and sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Moidin was also wanted in several others cases in different police stations of Mangaluru. The CCB police that gathered information about him succeeded in tracing his whereabouts and nabbed him in Mysuru.
He has been handed over to Mangaluru north police for further investigation.
