Udupi, Sep 18: As per statistics made available, from the Information Department here, a total of 583 nominations have been filed for the urban local bodies’ elections in district.
According to the department as many as 191 nomination papers were filed for election to 35 wards of the Udupi City Municipal Council, which includes 77 nominations from the Congress, 63 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 34 from the Janata Dal (Secular), four from the Samajwadi party and 13 by independent candidates.
Further it informs that as many as 178 nomination papers were filed for election to 23 wards of the Kundapur town municipal council, which included 59 nominations from the Congress, 72 by the BJP, 14 by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), 23 by the JD(S) and 10 by independent candidates.
As many as 146 nomination papers were filed for elections to 23 wards of the Karkala town municipal council, which included 35 nominations from the Congress, 59 by the BJP, 25 by the JD(S) and 27 by independent candidates.
Sixty-eight nomination papers were filed for election to 14 wards of the Saligrama town panchayat. These include 34 nominations by the Congress, 16 by the BJP and 18 by independent candidates.
