Mangaluru, Feb 23: Konaje police on Monday arrested three persons in relation to the murder of Ismail whose body was found on Sunday February 21.
Nabeesa, the second wife of the deceased, her lover Jamal and Riyaz who killed Ismail were the persons arrested. They were all produced in court and have been sent to judicial custody.
Ismail the driver and owner of Tata Ace car had left Farangipet to Mudigere on February 16, but never returned.
The car found on February 17 abandoned at Neerakatte. Blood stains were found in the taxi to suspect murder of Ismail.
The body of the deceased was found on Sunday, February 21. A missing complaint was lodged at Konaje police station by Nabeesa after the news of Ismail was reported in the media. Nabeesa had agreed to give Rs 2.5 lac to Riyaz for killing Ismail. Riyaz had taken Rs 70,000 in advance and the rest he took after the murder.
How the police cracked case?
A team led by inspector Ashok and sub inspector Sudhakar managed in solving the murder mystery within days. Police started investigating the case after making Nabeesa a central point due to inconsistencies in her statements.
When the police checked the mobile tower location of Ismail, they found that it was showing Shiradi location. In the same tower location, the presence of Riyaz’s mobile number was also recorded on the same date and time. When the police checked Riyaz’s mobile call records, they found that he had made many calls to Nabeesa and Jamal. Nebeesa had said in her complaint that she had withdrawn money to give to Ismail before he saw her last. When police checked the CCTV cameras at the ATM of the bank, they found that Jamal had accompanied her to the ATM. This almost solved the murder mystery. In fact Nabeesa had given the money to Riyaz and not to Ismail.
Riyaz had hired Ismail’s taxi and told him that he wanted to go to Mudigere with his friends. It was easy for Riyaz to do this as he had hired Ismail’s taxi before. Riyaz had taken Munaf and Shabbir two of his accomplices with him. At Uppinangadi, they went to a bar and took drinks. When the taxi reached Shiradi, Riyaz told Ismail that they would consume more alcohol and eat the food in the jungle nearby. Ismail who did not suspect them became a dead body within few moments. The trio killed him and hid the body in the jungle. Then they came by the same taxi belonging to Ismail and abandoned it at Neerakatte.
The trio came to Mangaluru city by a lorry and stayed in a hotel. Nabeesa paid them the balance amount after that.
Nabeesa knew Jamal for a year. It is said that as Ismail was heavily into drinks, she had illicit relationship with other men.
Konaje police are still investigating the case. Munaf and Shabbir are yet to be traced.
