New Delhi, Feb 27 (Zee News): Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested on charges of sedition, has said that he was beaten by a group of lawyers in the presence of police personnel in Patiala House court premises on February 17.
In a statement Kanhaiya Kumar recorded before senior lawyers of the Supreme Court, the JNUSU president said that he was attacked as soon as he entered the court.
The exclusive video of the statement has been accessed by CNN-IBN.
"The lawyers pushed me to the ground, beat me black and blue. My clothes were torn. But the police remained silent."
"Those who beat me were dressed up like lawyers, and asked others to join them. They abused me. I identified one of the lawyers in the courtroom and told police about it but no action was taken," added Kumar.
Meanwhile, a report on Saturday said that security of Kanhaiya Kumar has been beefed up in Tihar Prison, where he is lodged.
Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on February 12 after the event held on the university campus in commemoration of the death of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru who was executed in 2013. He allegedly shouted anti-India slogans at the event.
