Mangalore, Sep 20: The lecturers of University College here staged protest for suspending principal Sitaram Poojary by wearing black stripes on Thursday September 20.

Few days ago ABVP had planned to organize some programme at the University College premises. But the principal denied permission owing to other scheduled programme.

Hence, the ABVP activists staged protest along with MLC Ganesh Karnik at the college premises later. Soon after the incident higher education minister D H Shankarmurthy issued suspension order to Sitaram Poojary. Opposing this move the lecturers staged silent protest on Thursday September 20 by wearing black stripes.

Since he was suspended for political reasons the incident has provided stage for both BJP and Congress parties to fight against each other. Congress leader M G Hegde in a press conference held on Thursday urged Shankarmurthy to resign immediately since he has suspended Sitaram Poojary without valid reasons.
