Chandy unhurt in car mishap

Kottayam (Kerala) Feb 28 (IANS): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was unhurt as the car he was travelling in lost control and skidded off the road on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2.50 a.m. when Chandy, fast asleep, was travelling from northern Kerala to his home town, near here, after a busy day of attending a number of functions along with President Pranab Mukherjee who was visiting the state.

A tyre of his car got deflated following which the car skidded off the road and came to a halt close to a wall.

"It was a close shave and nothing happened, we are all lucky," Chandy told reporters on Sunday morning.

His security official told IANS that since the chief minister had used the seat belt, things turned out to be safe.

The official did suffer a small injury on his hand.

Chandy visited his parish church in Puthuppally, which he represents in the assembly, and then met his constituents.
