Alok Kumar Verma takes charge as Delhi Police chief


New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS): Alok Kumar Verma, a 1979-batch Indian Police Service officer, on Monday took charge as the Delhi Police Commissioner, an official said.

Verma, who will be the Delhi Police chief till July 2017, succeeds B.S. Bassi, who retired on Monday. Verma was earlier the Director General of Prisons. 

Verma's appointment was announced on February 18.
