Bantwal, Mar 1: On behalf of Dakshina Kannada district unit of youth Congress, a complaint was filed in the town police station here on Monday February 29 against Uttara Kannada MP, Anant Kumar Hegde. The party has accused the MP of making blasphemous and insulting remarks against Islam and Muslims.
It is said that at a press conference held at Sirsi on Sunday, Hegde had belittled Islam and Muslims.
Youth Congress district vice president, Luqman Bantwal, said in his complaint that the sentiments of Muslim community have been badly hurt by the statement made by the MP. In his complaint, Luqman urged the police to book Hegde under sections 153 a, 295 a and 502 (2) of Indian Penal Code.
Panemangalore block Congress president, Abbas Ali, municipal councillor, Sadashiva Bangera, nominated member of council, Siddique Guddeangady, president of district SC ST wing of Congress party, Padmanabha Naringana, and several others were present at the time of handing over the above complaint.
Dakshina Kannada Kazi, Twaka Ahmed Musliyar also asked the state government to take action against Hegde for his anti-Islam rhetoric at a press conference at Sirsi, which he said, tends to damage social fabric. Muslim Central Committee president, Alhaj K S Muhammed Masood, SSF state president and state Wakf Board member,N K Muhammed Shaffi Saadi, PFI state secretary, Shaffi Bellare,and severalothers toohave demanded stringent action against Hegde for his anti-Islam statements.
In the meanwhile, state health minister, U T Khader, met home miister, Dr G Parameshwar, urging him to file suo moto case against Hegde for his shocking and irresponsible statements against Islam, and take stringent legal measures against the MP. He reasoned that Hegde would have uttered these words to get publicity, but as a MP he said Hegde should have thought about the repercussions of such public utterances.
