Mangaluru, Mar 3: A teacher serving in a private high school in the city has been accused of sexually harassing a minor girl student from his school. In connection with the incident, the school management has suspended him from service.
The accused, Mohan Rai D (43), a Kannada teacher in the said school, is accused of sexually harassing a 14-year-old ninth standard student of the school.
It is said that Rai struck conversation with the student concerned through cellphone, Facebook and WhatsApp and talked to her using obscene language. Reportedly, the teacher enticed the student into accompanying him to ice cream parlour, cinema hall etc in the city. He also sexually harassed her through physical contact, it is said.
The headmistress came to know about these developments through a friend of the student concerned. On the basis of a written complaint received from the aggrieved girl and her classmates, the school governing council has suspended the teacher from service.
It is said that angered by this development, Mohan Rai approached the headmistress and threatened to kill her by making it look like an accident. A case about this threat was registered in rural police station here.
Rai, who hails from Uppala, was serving as teacher at the said school since the last 16 years. He has now absconded, and police are making efforts to nab him, it is learnt.
It is said that he had indulged in such behaviour earlier also and had been warned by the school management. On one occasion, he had even been beaten up by a girl's relatives, sources said.
Sources that that Rai got married about nine months ago.
