Bahrain, Mar 5: Rajesh B Shetty has been elected president of Bunts Bahrain.
Also, Umeshchandra Rai was elected treasurer, Roshan Shetty, general secretary, Mithun Bhandary, vice president, Sujyothi Shetty, asst general secretary, Sharath Shetty, sports secretary, Tejas Shetty, public relation officer, Nithin Shetty, asst sports secretary, Yakshit Shetty, asst entertainment secretary and Sanjeev Shetty was elected as entertainment secretary.
The Bunt's community residing in the region had been dreaming for quite a few years of establishing an association of their own. With a keen desire to bring all the fellow Bunts together under a single umbrella belonging to their own association, Jinraj Shetty discussed this possibility with Krishna Shetty and Bharath Shetty. This idea was also placed before other prominent Bunt members residing in the region for due consideration. The rest was history. On February 22, 2002 in the honoured presence of Ramanath Rai, the then Karnataka Minister of Ports and Fisheries and Sarvothama Shetty the chief guest, 'Bunts Bahrain', an exclusive organization for the Bunts Community of the region was born. As suggested by Sarvothama Shetty, a working committee under the leadership of Rama Shetty as president and other five prominent Bunt names namely Jagannath Shetty, Amarnath Rai, Sunil Shetty, Prabhath Shetty, Ashok Shetty and Bharath Shetty as coordinators was established.
The association, today with experience of more than a decade, is home to about 400 Bunt families living miles away trom their homeland. A significant number of Bahrainis and Indians have been served till date through various means. The association continues to preserve and promote their rich cultural heritage among the future generations by celebrating events throughout the year and contributing towards social welfare and well being through charity.
Some of their major contributions being financial assistance twards children's education, medical treatment, marriage of their Bunt girls back in India Satyanarayana Puja, moral discourse by Odiyoor Swami Sri Gurudevananda, Yakshagana, outdoor and indoor sports tournament, food festival, entertainment and cultural events, get-togethers and so on.
