I did not flee from India and neither am I an absconder: Mallya

New Delhi, Mar 11, 2016, (PTI) : Beleagured businessman Vijay Mallya, who is facing legal proceedings for alleged loan defaults by his group to the tune of over Rs 9,000 crore, today said he is not an absconder and he will comply with the law of the land.

"I am an international businessman. I travel to and from India frequently. I did not flee from India and neither am I an absconder. Rubbish," Mallya tweeted earlier this morning from an undisclosed location.

He further said: "As an Indian MP I fully respect and will comply with the law of the land. Our judicial system is sound and respected. But no trial by media."

He also sought to shift the blame to the media, saying: " Once a media witch hunt starts it escalates into a raging fire where truth and facts are burnt to ashes. Let media bosses not forget help, favours, accommodation that I have provided over several years which are documented. Now lies to gain TRP?."

Mallya also questioned news reports that he must declare his assets.

"Does that mean that Banks did not know my assets or look at my Parliamentary disclosures?," he added.

The 60-year-old liquor baron, who is facing legal proceedings for alleged loan defaults of Rs 9,000 crore by his group, left the country on March 2, even as banks have approached the courts to seek orders restraining him from going abroad.

While he remained silent on his whereabouts, reports said the UB Group chairman and Rajya Sabha member is believed to be at his country home in an English village about an hour's drive north of London.

Opposition leaders including Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi have raised questions about how he was allowed to leave the country despite a 'lookout' notice by CBI.

On Wednesday, the government told the Supreme Court that Mallya had left India on March 2 following which the bench issued notice to him and sought his response within two weeks on pleas filed by a consortium of banks seeking direction for freezing his passport and his presence before the apex court.

Indian banks are laughing stocks now. Best way was nationalise king fisher airlines during 2012 and save its employees and banks too. But MMS govt was foolish. Now it is too late.

If you take loan against jewellery with the bank and tomorrow if gold prices s 70% then bankers cannot come to your home and say you have house car and bus. Is Indian banks are upto international standards or they are doing some street financial business? They should follow loan recovery procedure as per international standard... Isn't it. Otherwise you will lose faith in banking.. Isn't it?

Mallya is a gentleman. Media should not project him as a crook. None of the private Airline Industry is making profit these days. Big airline industry like PanAm has shut down.

National airlines are surviving because of the government money.

Government is pumping around Rs 30 thousand crore annually to Air India to run the show.
Mr Mallya has not pocketed any money from the loan he has taken. SBI should not have sanctioned loan to a sick industry.
Mallya has no political affiliation any party.
He is a not a cheat.

Continue to respect him, no one objects, but your great respect doesn't get those 7k crores back. It's reported he still has assets overseas much more than worth 7k crores, let him part with some of it and settle whatever he owes to his motherland, including SALARIES OF HIS EX EMPLOYEES and prove that he's a gentleman and that your great respect is not misplaced.

Banks cannot blame him now. It is a business loss. Fair enough. Everything due to high oil prices. Now banks just need to auction all the co laterals given during loan. If they cannot recover then it is not mallyas problem it is bank problem. There is no material in the case doing cbi enquiry or going to courts by banks. If the bank cannot recover loans from collateral then whoever sanctioned loan needs to booked and send to prison. Good lesson to bank. It is banking corruption. Mallya did no mistake. No material in the cbi enquiry.

Why blame Dr. Mallya...? Blame bankers na.....! He is smart enough to take loans and making business. Business me kabhi fayidaa hoga, kabhi lukhsaan bhee ho sakta hai.
But, bankers are not smart enough to recover the loans. Is it Dr. Mallya's fault? Bankers were blind, because in every document which he furnish they were able to see only & only the charming body of his calendar girls!

Technically Mallya's point is correct. But he is defaulter for a tune of RS 9000 crore. Now can Emigration officials allow average man who might defaulted even one crore as Mallya's travel program under scanner by CBI?MALLYA MADE TO WEEP THOUSANDS OF EMPLOYEES (ESPECIALLY KINGFISHER'S)by not paying their salaries for year or so.. Therefore, his destiny will be something like.

We cannot blame Mallya alone. Our system, people in system, banks, political patronage who has helped Mallya to drag this issue have to be blamed.
Did Mallya became defaulter now or was he since 2009? Why we are crying only now? There was enough time to bring him to book before he travelled. We are only talking about default to banks. Employees dues also should have been taken more seriously under the labor laws by the then Government.
