Mangalore, Sep 26: The Beedi Workers Welfare Forum (BWWF) of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have decided to stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in the city on Monday October 8, stated chief coordinator P Hemavathi in a press release.
The protest will be staged demanding dearness allowance to the employees of beedi companies, informed Hemavathi.
According to the agreement that was signed in the presence of the Joint Labour Commissioner on January 31, the companies should have distributed Rs 4,500 to each worker, said Hemavathi. But some employees were given only Rs 1000 and some workers did not even receive a single rupee, she lamented.
The BWWF will intensify its fight if the companies will not distribute the amount in full as early as possible, she warned.
She further said that company representatives themselves should distribute the allowance.
