Jammu-Srinagar highway reopened to light vehicles

Jammu, Mar 14 (IANS): The strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway was on Monday reopened for light vehicular traffic after remaining closed for two days due to landslides triggered by incessant rain in Ramban district of the Jammu region.

"Light vehicles have been allowed to move from both Jammu and Srinagar today (Monday) morning after earth and rocks were removed from the highway.

"Heavy vehicular traffic will be allowed on the highway after the situation is reviewed later in the day," a senior official of the state traffic department told IANS in Jammu.

The highway, which is over 300-km long, remained closed for two days because of landslides in Ramban district triggered by incessant rain.

Weather improved in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday as bright sunshine broke through the cloud cover after three days.
