Moodbidri, Sep 27:  Dynamic youth leader Amar D'Silva (22) died in a bike accident which occurred at Gantalkatte near Sri Mahaveera College, Moodbidri, late at 9.30 in the night on Wednesday September 26.

The accident occurred when Amar D'Silva and his friend Darryl Aranha were both riding on two separate bikes at Gantalkatte. Two police personnel of Moodbidri police station Ashok and Anil Lobo were riding another bike simultaneously. The police were heading towards Hudco Colony near Mahaveer College after receiving a call that fight was brewing between Congress and BJP supporters  S I Umapathi immediately rushed to the spot with his full team and the said two policemen Ashok and Lobo who were on some other duty, too were rushing to the spot on their own Yamaha bike.

Amar's father Daniel

When after giving proper signal the policemen’s bike hurriedly took a sharp diversion near Maarigudi to Hudco Colony, Darryl's bike which was speeding behind police's bike rammed into police personnel’s bike. As there was not much gap between the third bike in which Amar was riding at full speed, it too went and hit the police bike, the impact of which being so powerful that it threw Amar out of the bike. In the bargain Amar D'Silva sustained critical injuries in his head and died instantly on the spot. Darryl too was badly injured in the accident and was immediately rushed to A J Hospital in Mangalore in an unconscious condition.

Both the police constables Ashok and Anil Lobo were badly injured with fractures. While the former has been admitted to Tejaswini hospital, the latter constable is in Alva's hospital at Moodbidri.

About Amar D’Silva: Amar was an active youth leader. He has served as president of ICYM Gantalkatte. Moreover he was a member of the Moodbidri Varado Youth Council. Amar was quite popular amongst the youth community and was liked by all owing to his amiable nature. Amar is survived by his father Daniel, mother Lilly, brother Arun and sister Ashwini.

It is indeed sad that within a short span of two weeks, two young lives from Moodbidri Varado are lost in two separate bike accidents. One may recall that earlier too Darryl Lobo from Hospet met with an accident, the very next day of the nativity feast and died after fighting for his life being in coma for four days in Bangalore.

The funeral cortege of Amar leaves residence  for Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, Gantalkatte at 5 pm on Thursday September 27.
