Political violence rises in poll bound Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram/Alapuzha, Mar 15 (PTI): In fresh escalation of political violence in poll-bound Kerala, a 28-year-old Youth Congress worker was hacked to death allegedly by DYFI workers at Evoor in Alapuzha early today even as BJP and CPI(M) workers clashed in Thiruvananthapuram district leaving at least 30 injured.

Police sources said Youth Congress worker Sunil Kumar was woken up from sleep at 2 AM this morning by eight activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of CPI(M), and attacked as he ran out of the house.

Kumar suffered serious injuries on his hands and legs and later succumbed to his wounds, police said. The victim was said to have been a DYFI activist earlier.

Four DYFI workers have been arrested, police said and added that a hunt is on for others.

Last night, BJP and CPI(M) workers had clashed at Kattayikonam in Thiruvananthapuram district, leaving at least 30 injured. One of them is reportedly in serious condition.

Former BJP state President V Muraleedharan was among those injured in stone throwing, allegedly by CPI(M) workers.

Demanding the arrest of the accused, BJP observed a hartal in the district today.
CPI-M had also called for a hartal today in Kattayikonam.

Vehicles have been exempted from the hartal's purview to prevent inconvenience to students appearing for exams.

As the political heat over the May 16 elections is slowly rising, reports of rival party workers clashing in various parts of the state, especially northern Kannur district, are also increasing.

An RSS worker was recently hacked to death in Pappinesseri and a BJP worker escaped with serious injuries in Panur, both in Kannur district after they were attacked allegedly by CPI(M) workers.

It's a do or die battle this time for BJP, which has so far not opened its account in the Kerala assembly and is going all out to woo voters across the state.

BJP has entered into an alliance with the newly floated Bharat Dharma Jana Seva (BDJS), an organisation of the numerically strong Ezhava community.

The fact that the saffron party had performed well in the local body polls in November has also given the party a glimmer of hope.

Both the ruling Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF, which have ruled the state alternatively all these years, are also leaving nothing to chance.

    Irony of the day:
A communist student leader gets arrested - Congress leader sits in a dharna!
A Congress worker gets killed by communist workers - not a word by Congress leader!!

In another state, both Congress and Communists are supposed to vote for each other!!!

And the root cause for all these is a "third" party!!!!!

There is always fighting and killing in politics. Each party wants to win the election by hook or crook. This violence will continue before and even after election. This is part and parcel in the political field.

Kerala voters need to be smart like Biharis rejecting communals. If they fail this time 'God's own country' will disintegrate and falls apart.

Corruption will never snatch your bread but communals will make your homeless in your own country.

The entry of BJP in kerala is only going to have impact for CPI. the benefit will be to cogress only, and bjp will gain nothing except reducing CPI vote share. if cong wins again in kerala, then cpi is almost out of political scene.

so, this is angering the cpi activists and they are going reckless, attaching both cog and bjp people.

Hitler was worse looking at horror of the Holocaust. Stalin was also worse, may be more, because his rule killed far, far more people, tens of millions.. you issuing certificate to Stalin makes me wonder how you simply digested the mass killing by his regime.

And China’s progress is nothing to do with communism, but pure capitalism, just the opposite. Are we blind to see the state of communism rule in our very own kerala, or WB? Pl look at history and of course with an open eye. also, don't rely on our history books, they will never talk communists horror, we know why.

Rameshji, it is true that the CPI (M) do believe what Mao said " power through the barrel of a gun", but that power is a bygone history however the temper march will create bloodshed in the society.

Now, to make the matters worse in Kerala, the RSS-VHP-BD etc have penetrated, and their ideology of terrorism and persecution of the minorities is not a foreign import like Mao's ideology but the North Indian distribution in South India which makes the situation far worse now.

No Sir, since BJP came into power in New Delhi, the RSS policemen are roaming everywhere in Kerala targeting the defenseless people as a joke to show their supremacy to jump over other people.

The RSS vs Marxist confrontation in Kerala is getting heated every day which is destroying the peace and harmony of the State of Kerala.

But do agree with you in certain instances. In Kerala, mainly three districts, Kottayam-Pathanamhitta and Idduki districts have 50/50 Hindu-Christian habitation and they never had any problem to live in peace, lived like relatives. In one village in Pathanamthiita District, the RSS people tried to play the rule keeper's job and certain friction was started in between the Hindus and Christians, also some Muslims there. Then the leaders of all these three religions got together and said, we all lived in peace like good neighbors, now these strangers are destroying our peace.
So, as a united effort, they drove the RSS out of the village, so they are enjoying peace again.

Do you like some jobless people walking to and fro and sitting in front of stores acting like law keepers and creating fight in between the friendly neighbors?
