Mangalore, Sep 27: “We are proud of the developments that have taken place in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. But this has led to communal tension in each corner of coastal Karnataka. Hence how a newspaper like Prajavani which has a history of 60 years, will lead this coastal area in the coming days is a million dollar question,” said Vaidehi, well-known Kannada writer.

While launching the ‘Karavali’ - the coastal supplement of Prajavani Kannada daily at Town Hall on Thursday September 27, she said that the communal harmony which existed in the past does not prevail now. The tentacles of evils poured into the street. Hence, the Prajavani has a challenging role to play in the coastal district, she opined.

“We are left with no other dreams than ‘fighting with each other.’ However, we need our peaceful Dakshina Kannada to remain the same. In this regard Prajavani has a significant role in prioritizing and balancing the coastal news, she graced.

Eminent orthopedic surgeon Dr Shantaram Shetty speaking at the inaugural of the programme said that Prajavani has  served the society and nation for 6 decades and enjoys better readership in the coastal district for the last many years.

Almost all the newspapers highlight the politicians only and they overlook the achievers. However the need of the hour would to be vise-versa, that can inspire young generation, he advised.

Tilak Kumar, editor of Prajavani, presided over the function. R P Jagdish, associate editor of Prajavani, explained the background of Prajavani. D B Dutta, vice-president of The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd, welcomed the gathering. Balakrishna Puttige, chief of Mangalore bureau, compered the programme.
