Kargil war hero joins BJP, to contest West Bengal polls


New Delhi, Mar 18 (IANS): Kargil war hero Colonel Diptanshu Choudhry on Friday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and will contest the West Bengal assembly election from Asansol South constituency.

Choudhry joined the BJP at the party headquarters here in presence of union ministers J.P. Nadda and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

Party secretary and co-incharge of West Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh was also present.

"The way he worked for the army, we hope the same way he will serve the party and the people of West Bengal," Rathore said.

Rathore said Colonel Diptanshu Choudhry participated in the Kargil war from the beginning till the end.

Elections to the state's 294-member assembly are slated across April-May.
