Flash Flood at Sattari, Bicholim - Loss Put at Rs 1 Crore

Panaji, Sep 29: Loss of property worth over Rs 1 was reported in Sattari and Bicholim taluka as a result of a flash flood that hit the Sanquelim bazaar area and other suburbs on Friday.

It so happened when the gates of the Anjunem dam at Keri were thrown open following the crossing of water level above the danger mark. Minutes after the gates were opened, flow in the Valvanti river spated to its highest level and started flowing above the danger mark level.

Around 3.00 am in the early morning hours, flood water started entering shops and houses in the Sanquelim bazaar area and within a matter of hour, Sanquelim was under water. Almost all the shops and houses were inundated, leaving goats and chicken in the shops dead.
 
The police, fire brigade and the municipality along with the panchayats are on their toes executing rescue and the clearing operations.

Chief minister Digambar Kamat visited the flood-affected areas and inspected the damage, accompanied by North Goa Ccllector Mihir Vardhan and other officers in charge.
