Chinese temple fined for illegal possession of lion


Beijing, Mar 19 (IANS): A Buddhist temple in China’s Shaanxi province, was fined 3,000 yuan ($463) for the illegal possession of a lion within its premises, the media reported on Saturday.

Officials confirmed that the lion has been confiscated and the temple in Xi'an city is under probe, the People's Daily reported.

It is reported that the temple was given two sick baby lions in 2010.

One of them died and the other remained in the temple until recently.
