New Delhi, Mar 22 (Zee News): JNU students’ union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar will meet Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.
The meeting is expected to be held at 11:30 am at Rahul's residence in Lutyen's Delhi.
While details about the agenda of the meeting are unknown, the meeting between Rahul and Kanhaiya is significant as the Congress may want to join hands with him to take on the BJP.
Kanhaiya, who is out on bail after he was booked on sedition charges, has unrelentingly attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS.
Earlier when Kanhaiya was in Jail, Rahul had attended a solidarity meeting at JNU to demand his release.
However, with the Left pinning their hopes on Kanhaiya Kumar - he is a leader of All India Students’ Federation (AISF), the students’ wing of CPI - to woo the young towards its ideology, the outcome of Rahul, Kanhaiya meeting will hold much significance, politically.
The Left parties had even went to the extent to announce that Kanhaiya will campaign for the combine during the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
“He (Kanhaiya Kumar) is a Left activist. As a Left activist, he will naturally campaign (for the parties). It is often said that youth is not attracted to the Left. What they have to say about yesterday’s meeting in JNU?” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury had said after Kanhaiya delivered a stirring speech at JNU.
However, he later stated that Kanhaiya will not travel to Kerala and Bengal to campaign citing the bail and other issues involved in making him poll campaigner.
