Mumbai /Mangalore, Sep 30: Shankar Poojary of Padukone-Kundapur origin and owner of extensively popular Shiv Sagar group of restaurants and fast food chains in Mumbai and elsewhere, popular Billawa community leader, passed away in sleep here on the night between Saturday and Sunday, during his stay in a hotel here.

A Tuluva-Kannadiga by birth, he was born of Ram and Subbi Poojary couple from Padukone. He landed in Mumbai in 1964 and began working in a restaurant. Later joining service in the Sukh Sagar restaurants owned by well-known entrepreneur Suresh Poojary, he learnt the trade. Launching his own juice centre in 1973, he slowly progressed in business and opened his 'Shiv Sagar' fast food joint at Vile Parle (E) in 1981.

This enterprise, over the years, grew into enormous proportions and in 2006 completed 25 years. Known for his modesty and simplicity, Shankar Poojary, instead of lavish show, utilized the same amount to give away gifts, gold, clothings etc. to his employees. He took great care of his staff and supported them in matters of housing, marriage etc. thus setting example to others to follow.

He was a prominent leader of the Billawa community and was closely associated with other community leaders like Rajya Sabha member Janardhan Poojary, Jaya C Suvarna, advocate Rohini Salian and others.

Many Tuluva and Billawa leaders have condoled the death of Shankar Poojary.

On the second part they hv issued 2 bills for Rs.1.055/- and another one forRs.1.234/-. Which is wrong .we don't know why the company had to loose the revenue. Need little attention in this regard. From what I have heard, he was a very simple and kind hearted and helped so many poor people. He was always very kind, sympathetic and understanding towards his staff - a very rare quality to find now-a-days. May God rest his soul in peace.
