Manipal: Thousands Throng World Heart Day Walkathon

Manipal, Sep 30: National Level 'World Heart Day Walkathon Manipal-2007: organised by Kasturba Hospital, Manipal was thronged by  thousands of people. The World Heart Day Walkathon Manipal-2007 was flagged off today at 9 am by Mrs Vasanthi Ramdas Pai. Dr Rajsekharan Warrier, Vice Chancellor, Manipal University, administered the Oath on the occassion to the participants. The glamour girl of Indian athletics, Ms Ashwini Nachappa led the National Level World Heart Day Walkthon-2007. Speaking on the occassion, Ms Ashwini Nachappa congratulated the Kasturba Hospital authorities for this noble effort to create awareness among people.

Kasturba Hospital organised 'World Heart Day Walkathon Manipal-2007 under the theme 'Team Up for Healthy Hearts' wherein participants from all walks of life get together to support and raise awareness that Prevention Is Better Than Cure, due to the alarming rate of cardiac diseases arising in both men and women in large sections of our population today. Life style modifications in today's era have also led to people developing Heart Diseases at a very young age.


 Dr H S Ballal said that the programs of this type is essential to create a RED ALERT among general public and especially among Women about increasing incidence of Heart Diseases and create awareness among the public about the importance of maintaining a Healthy Heart. The Thematic Dressing competiion winner was awarded Rs 2000 and runners up Rs 1000 and Rs 500 each. The winners in the Walkathon were presented Workld Heart Day Manipal momento's.
