Bantwal: Election Procession Turns Violent – Melkar Tense

Bantwal, Sep 30: A tense situation is prevailing at Melkar near BC Road owing to clashes which took place after an election procession turned violent on Sunday, September 30.
The Congress party had taken out a procession at Melkar, to celebrate its win in the Bantwal Town Muncipal election. However some BJP activists objected to this procession and pelted stones against the Congress activists, when they were returning back after completion of the celebratory procession. This caused some degree of friction between the two parties, and resulting in communal tension prevailing in the region now.
Shareef, Ashraf and Basheer from one group have been injured in this incident. Out of the three, Shareef has been seriously injured and admitted to the hospital in Mangalore, sources said. From the other group Ravi, Chetan and Prabhakar have been injured.
Senior police officials have reached the spot to assess the situation. According to the last report reached to daijiworld at midnight Sep 30, the situation is under control.
