BJP legislators meet on Kashmir government formation

Jammu, Mar 25 (IANS): BJP legislators met here on Friday to discuss government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jitendra Singh, the minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office, and Ram Madhav, general secretary in the Bharatiya Janata Party in charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, also attended the meeting.

Jitendra Singh and Ram Madhav arrived here earlier in the day and drove straight to the state guest house, the venue.

Informed sources said the legislators and senior leaders at the meeting were apprised by Ram Madhav about the recent developments, including the Tuesday meeting between PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The BJP leadership reiterated that no fresh conditions (by PDP) had been accepted and the alliance with the PDP will continue on the basis of the agenda of alliance signed (earlier) by the two parties," a BJP source told IANS.

Jitendra Singh represents the Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha seat for the BJP in the Lok Sabha.

He informed that a BJP-PDP joint coordination committee will meet in the coming days to discuss the modalities vis-a-vis the formation of the state government, to be led by Mehbooba Mufti as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Governor N.N. Vohra has called the state presidents of the two parties to hold separate meetings with him at the Raj Bhawan on Friday.

Jammu and Kashmir has been under Governor's Rule since January when Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died.
