Nobody needs to be forced to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai': Mohan Bhagwat

Lucknow, Mar 28 (PTI): Amid a raging row over chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today said nobody needs to be forced to raise it and that efforts should be made to build a "great" India that is hailed across the globe voluntarily.

"We have to create such a great India where people themselves chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'...it need not be imposed," Bhagwat said.

Bhagwat's remark at a Bhartiya Kishan Sangh event came days after BJP patriarch L K Advani termed the controversy over the slogan "meaningless".

The RSS chief said, "We (India) have to show the way to the people of the world with our life and deeds. We do not want to win or defeat anyone. We don't want to impose our ideology and thoughts on anyone. We wish to show them the path because we accept them as our own.

"We have to show the path to the world through our deeds and create such an India that there is 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' across the world...We don't want to force anyone...it is not to be imposed," he said.

Bhagwat was speaking after inaugurating the renovated building of the BKS. He said the Sangh was striving to raise more and more people who were committed to the cause of creating a great India. Whether it is farmers or people engaged in other occupations for livelihood, everyone contributes something to society, he said.

"Earning maximum wealth with minimum effort can be considered to be a special ability, but it should not be a motto. Our motto should be that we will work more than we take from the society. We should give more to the society," Bhagwat said.

Terming 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family) as the philosphy and core of Indian culture, he said, "We have to present an example before the entire world."

The RSS boss had stirred a controversy recently with his remark that the younger generation needed to be taught to hail "Mother India".

In apparent retaliation, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had said he would not chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' as he was not obliged to do it under the Constitution and that he would not do so even if a "knife is put to my throat".

The issue snowballed into a political slugfest with the Shiv Sena, BJP and other parties slamming the Hyderabad MP over his stand. Maharashtra Assembly suspended an AIMIM MLA after he refused to chant the slogan, while the Madhya Pradesh Assembly passed a censure motion condemning Owaisi.

Amid the escalating row Advani had said in Gandhinagar, "I don't want to comment on it. This is a meaningless controversy ('yeh ek vyarth vivad hai')".

First step was Khaki Shorts to long Pants.
Second step was 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'
Third step is 'U' turn because you cannot force a Sardaarji to say 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' in the next upcoming Punjab Election.
We are not ruled by BJP or any NDA from Delhi, we are truly ruled by RSS from Nagpur.
We should agree and change the Capital from Delhi to Nagpur.

After honorable MP Mr. Owaisi's thundering statement/reaction/ response on the views of forced test of nationalism as a test by a section of the self proclaimed righteous patriotic organization would have prompted the Parivar Chief to clarify its position (I am sure, after taking note of the secular spirit of the constitution of Hindustan into cognizance).

Further, another angle is that the possibility of guarding the interest of its political outfit (BJP). As we know that in the next two months there are 5 states going to polls with at least 3 states(Kerala/Bengal/Assam) have a reasonably sizable proud & patriotic Hindustanis who follow Islam as their religion.

We all know that how the unwarranted reservation policy review statement by the Parivar Chief damaged the political prospectus of Bihar assembly election.

The underlying substance is that the temporary/permanent political benefit by divisive statements on religious lines has potentially divide the right thinking majority community more than the perceived/anticipated perception.

Where is Mr. Modi? Who is the PM of India? All these so called almighty leaders are making their own declaration and setting up standards to be patriotic citizens of India.

Why Mr. Modi could tell it openly that it is the personal choice of the people to utter Bharat Matha Ki Jai, not a mandatory stipulation to be a patriotic citizen?

After the setback in Bihar and Delhi for the BJP, hard Hindutva like 'cow nationalism','love Jihad','Ghar wapsi' has been put into cold storage. It can be thawed any time a future electoral occasion demands.
Nationalism is both more widespread and all-embracing than a mere slogan like 'Bharat Mata ki jai'.
So introducing the nationalism discourse is necessary for the BJP's electoral performance in the coming state elections.
The minority communities are a minority of the electorate. But a slogan like "Bharat Mata ki jai" is being used as a mandatory one, as a litmus test of the nationalism of a person, party or community.
BJP must stop misusing patriotism to seduce voters.

Instead I request Bhaghwtji to hoist Indian National flag in every RSS office a fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution?
If rape do occur in British 'India',why our sisters being still raped in 'Bharata' which RSS worship as a mother?

No one is assigned to test fellow citizens patriotism or nationalism by linking it to one particular form of expression/utterance.

In my view - it is known to every sensible patriot and nationalist citizens who knows & understand the constitution of Hindustan.

RSS is known for creating the confusion first and allow for the masses to engage in trouble and tense. What's the need of giving clarification on sloganeering of Bharath Mata after inflicting unnecessary indifferences in the society ? Never the RSS raised Indian National flag for decades in their office and one is failing to understand their version of patriotism !!!!

@Rajesh, Udupi: I remember the cat that drinks milk by closing it's eyes thinking no one can see it, when you justify the flag code for RSS. 2002 is 14 years ago man!! Why Still RSS thought of hoisting the national flag? When the congress workers forcefully hoisted the flag in one of the shaaka, the shaaka chief said that the Bhagwa dwaj comes first and then the national flag and hence they can't hoist national flag. Go back and read old news from DW.

    Right.

If someone has respect to the motherland, they will express it either saying bharat mata ki jai or some other appropriate words that gives same meaning, that is fine. if someone does not want to repsect mother or motherland why force? it is that individual's culture. just ignore. Least is that the person does not disrespect the land. that's all.
