Udupi, Mar 29: Udupi city police have registered a case against five employees of a bank for allegedly misusing the ornaments pledged at the bank.

The police complaint was lodged by bank manager Bimal Krishnan. The bank is situated at Kanakadas Road in Udupi. A case stands registered against K H Pai, Deb Prasad, Satish Shettigar, Bhaskar and Sharath Kumar who are employees of the bank.

Police have disclosed that going by primary investigations, the ornaments mentioned in the complaint are missing.

The complaint has mentioned that the ornaments pledged by Shobha Mallaru from Ambalpady, Taj Mohammed from Kaup, Krishnananda Nayak from Barkur, Pratibha Rao from Thenkapete, Shakuntala from Tenkanidiyuru and Sridhar Rao from Tempete went missing from unknown date. The matter was discovered when Shobha came to take back her ornaments from the bank on March 10. When her ornaments were missing, the chief manager from the zonal office came to do the inspection. The inspection revealed that the ornaments belonging to several other people were also missing.

The bank manager has mentioned in his complaint that the bank employees have breached the trust kept in them by the customers of the bank and used them to satisfy their personal needs. The whereabouts of the ornaments are not known. Arrests are yet to be made.
