Kundapur, Oct 4: For the first time in the 34 years history of Kundapur Town Municipality the BJP won the absolute majority of 15 seats out of 23.
A pall of silence has descended on the local Congress party with an unbroken regime of three-decade-long history to find its lost moorings in the local politics.
Lack of preparatory work, over confidence, confusion in the selection of candidates, internal strife and the lack of rapport between the active party workers and the local voters were among the several reasons for its defeat in the local elections.
However, it was quiet evident for any ordinary observer to say that the workers in the Congress party were not as enthusiastic and hopeful.
It is also believed that the Congress party suffered a great set back in its performance due to Sethusamudram issue in Tamilnadu. The ruling Congress party had miserably failed in giving protection to a Catholic priest who was allegedly attached by anti-social elements.
