Darul Uloom issues fatwa against chanting 'Bharat Mata ki jai'

Saharanpur, Apr 1 (PTI): Joining the debate over chanting 'Bharat Mata ki jai', prominent Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has issued an edict asking Muslims to refrain from raising the slogan as it is "akin to idol-worship" which is against the tenets of Islam.

"We received thousands of queries on the issue so Darul Uloom Deoband has issued a 'fatwa' saying 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' is not in consonance with Islam and we will not say it. But we love our country immensely and we can raise slogans like 'Hindustan Zindabad' and 'Madre Vatan'.

"It is not allowed in Islam to represent the country as a Goddess' idol and raise slogans hailing her," said Ashram Usmani, public relations officer of the seminary.

The fatwa states that only a human can give birth to a human, so how can the country be called 'mother'.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had stirred a controversy with his remark that the younger generation needed to be taught to hail "Mother India".

In apparent retaliation, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had said he would not chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' as he was not obliged to do it under the Constitution and that he would not do so even if a "knife is put to my throat".

The issue triggered a political slugfest with the Shiv Sena, BJP and other parties slamming the Hyderabad MP over his stand. Maharashtra Assembly suspended an AIMIM MLA after he refused to chant the slogan, while the Madhya Pradesh Assembly passed a censure motion against Owaisi.

Amid the raging row, Bhagwat said just days ago that nobody needs to be forced to raise the slogan and that efforts should be made to build a "great" India that is hailed across the globe voluntarily.

RSS-BJP’s central politics is to polarize the communities by raising emotive issues.Such emotive issues are used to distract the social forces from the core issues of the downtrodden sections of the society. In contemporary times the types of concern raised by Rohith Vemula and Kanhaiya Kumar have drawn the focus to the real issues of dalits, farmers suicide, betrayal of promises by Modi Sarkar to name a few. With Bharat Mata Ki Jai the emotive pitch is on the peak along with attempts to erase Rohith Vemula from public memory.
It may be noted here that in the 2nd century, Roman Britannia came to be personified as a goddess, armed with a trident and shield and wearing a Corinthian helmet. She even sat on a lion.
“Bharat Mata has nothing to do with India’s ancient or medieval past. It is a European import. Notions of motherland and fatherland were talked about in Europe,”
The Sangh has been using the cudgel of patriotism to crush dissent everywhere — from the universities to the media.
By raising this issue just before the crucial elections in India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh, the RSS is clearly laying a trap for the Muslim leadership. Owaisi has unwittingly helped them lay it.

These are all diversionary tactics by the ruling Govt. which is not at all doing well with their Governance\Development of the Nation Program.
They bring in all these not all necessary, trouble making diktats so that peoples' minds taken away from the daily problems that they are facing - due to price rise of essential commodities and such other things.
People have already found out abt this useless Govt. only trying to pit one against the other by using religion.
Such Govt. in the long run will not be successful and will perish because of their own misdeeds.
Hope better sense prevails and urgent needs of the Nation is taken up for a better living.

Rich and poor are part of life cycle which has existed side by side right from the begining. Allah says in Holy Quran that He will test both rich and poor by providing them and not providing each respectively. It will be the duty of rich to take care of poors and the duty of poor to have faith and patience towards their Lord irrespective of hardship.

By providing 2.5% of wealth each year as alms to poor the rich will b accomplishing their prescribed duty to please their Lord.

Providing alms to poor doesnt end poverty in this world but Alhumdulillah will help their needs to be fulfilled.

Ofcourse there are corruption every where and one can find it every nuke and corner. If there was no corruption and all the rich had paid their zakat 2.5% wisely then we would have seen major reduction in poverty and not see any poor below the poverty line.

We are adults.so far in this 60 yrs of independence no one dictated us what to chant, eat or with whom to have relationship.Anything you do by force you will be frustrated one day hence you start hating it towards the end.Below 19yrs we need to be guided by our parents or school teachers.once we grow up we should have our own freedom. If my conscience tells me not to do I shouldn't do it even if my mother tells me.So don't blame the mullah. If anyone's religion tells him not to do you can't force. Most of our religions tells us Thou shall worship the God alone. You shall not worship any thing on earth abve the sky or underneath the earth for I am a jealous God.So let's respect our nation and love and worship our God.

    Dear Fellow brothers,
Seminaries issue fatwa when they are asked about it. They respond the question based on their holy scripts. It is a fact that idol worship is strictly prohibited among muslim, this nothing new.
Forcing to chant slogan is something new.
The debate should be, is it right for certain people to force chanting something?

Mr. Bhaskar, you have rightly said that Muslims should not accept Interest of bank deposit. It's not only of bank deposit but also of any kind of Riba(Interest).

Alhumdulillah there are almost 80% of Muslims across the world irrespective of they deposit money in Financial organisations due to various reasons (could be countries law, security etc) but donot utilise Interest money (usury) for any of their use as it's strictly forbidden in Islam hence u can see many Islamic Banks functioning around the world.

The remaining percent of Muslims who are accepting Interest and utilising it for themselves and their kith and kin are committing grave sin to which they will be answerable to Allah the Almighty coz they are going against the Almighty who has warned not once but more than 100 times at different chapters of Holy Qur'an.

A truly believing Muslim will follow each and every divine law prescribed by Almighty Allah and their primary priority is to believe and worship Allah alone and not any of His creation. That is the fundamental of Islamic belief.
