Indian priest kidnapped in Yemen 'could be freed soon'

New Delhi, Apr 3 (Reuters) : An Indian priest abducted by gunmen in Yemen last month is safe and could be released soon, a Catholic group said on Sunday, quoting the Indian foreign minister.

Father Tom Uzhunnalil was captured from the southern Yemeni city of Aden by gunmen who killed at least 15 people at an old people's home in an attack that was condemned by Pope Francis.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) said a delegation met Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj who said the government was working to secure the priest's safe return.

"She has assured us Father Tom is safe and negotiations are on for his release which could happen very soon," said Father Joseph Chinnaiyan, deputy secretary of the CBCI.

Media reports last week said the priest was killed by Islamic State militants on Good Friday, although no one has claimed responsibility for last month's attack in which gunmen killed four Indian nuns, two Yemeni female staff members, eight elderly residents and a guard.

Father Chinnaiyan said the reports were inaccurate.

Aden has been racked by lawlessness since Hadi supporters, backed by Gulf Arab military forces, drove fighters of the Iran-allied Houthi group from the city in July last year.

International aid groups have pulled most of their foreign staff from Yemen due to security concerns.

    Thank God he is alive.
    May he be secured safely.
We should sincerely thank our Govt and everyone who are putting efforts and praying for the release Fr. Tom from ISIS captivity.
In regard to help or any thing for that matter,
we should never bear false witness.
    Scriptures explains,
Falsely supporting the wrong as well as falsely opposing the righteous is bearing false witness!
About gratitude: If we are are given a cup of water for we belong to Jesus, giver will not loose his reward in heaven.

Shankar please note it is not a work of swaraj. There many international govt orgn are working with saudi and others govt for his release through pressure of the release from terrorist. Swaraj is only doing the paper work after major work is done by Western countries through middle east govt for his release.

Previously too Indian Nun's who were kidnapped by ISIS were successfully rescued and brought back to India by Sushma Swaraj. It looks like she is doing a great job. I will be Happy if she is able to secure the release of this person too. However I expect those who got rescued, their supporters & followers thank the effort of government and remain loyal to the country.

In face book HIS OWN people crucified him not one time but its thousand times!!!

I asked one Christian friend, who, when and how they crucified him and who told you that, he is just said it was in facebook so he shared it!!! what a pity....

Prayers are ok any time but without knowing tribute saying RIP ? any one can justify?????
