Minor boy's speeding Mercedes takes life of IT professional in New Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 6 (Indian Express) : A 32-year-old IT professional was killed after he was hit by a speeding Mercedes in north Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Monday evening. Police said the driver of the car, who is a minor, was apprehended later from the area.

The victim, Sidharth Sharma, was walking home from a restaurant when the incident occurred.

Sudhir Sangal, an eyewitness, said, “At around 8.45 pm yesterday, at the Sham Nath Marg junction in Civil Lines, a speeding Silver Mercedes hit a man who was crossing the road at the zebra crossing.”

He added, “The vehicle – whose speed must have been between 80 and 100 km per hr – hit him with such force that he flew about 20 feet in the air before falling. The car too was damaged in the accident – the air bags popped out, the tyre on the right side burst, and the right side panel was dented.”

According to the accounts of bystanders, as many as six to eight teenagers were in the vehicle, all of who fled the spot. A police officer said, “Bystanders took Sharma to Sant Parmanand Hospital where he died of his injuries.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told The Indian Express, “We apprehended the minor who was behind the wheel from the area. He said he was going to play basketball with his friends when the accident took place.” Police said they are not ruling out the possibility that the minors had consumed alcohol.

Sources said the minor told police that they had picked up Sidharth, who was lying in a pool of blood, and helped bystanders put him in the car. But when they saw people getting angry at them, they fled, added the sources.

Police may also take action against the father for giving the vehicle to a minor to drive, said a source.

Sharma was a student at Stratford University’s Lajpat Nagar branch, where he also worked in the marketing department as a business consultant. He lived in Civil Lines with his sister and brother-in-law, who were in Mumbai at the time of the accident. They flew back to Delhi Monday night. His parents, who live in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, rushed to Delhi.

“Sidharth was a happy-go-lucky guy.” said his brother in law, Yogesh Mittal, adding, “We are in complete shock… We have lost someone dear to us… It is terrible.”

Hopefully the law will put the owner of the vehicle and the kid together in a cell long enough so that they will realize value of another life is worth .Am sure all this incident is not intentional but carelessness, and power of money,a very much happening thing in our society .

Minor or senior, he deserve the punishment. But this will not happen as the minor boy has lot of backing to defend his case. After all he was not driving a rickshaw but a Mercedes.

This is not a boy's mistake this is happened through parents senseless behavior of traffic rule violence because this is always happened with money power.so the boy knows if anything goes wrong parents will defensively support to him. Now the days common in India who have the more money power thy can't bring down their eye sight. so NO respect for pedestrians when the killer come and kill them don't know only god can be protect the pedestrians life.

When a minor is not allowed to drive and if he kills somebody with his driving why he should be treated as minor. No proper law to punish the guilty. Why it has to considered as accident when he is not supposed to drive.

Minors can do anything in our country and get away with it. When a minor is not allowed to drive then this crime has to come under serious category.

nothing will happen on this case, I bet. It's only a loss for his family. The father who can give his Mercedes to a minor son, can do anything for his son. he can bribe, buy anybody. and as someone already mentioned , our judicial system is weak and bad that anybody can escape from that. But what a tragedy, such a gentleman lost his life due to a stupid behavior of a minor and a inhuman act by his father. I just pray both father and son get nice punishment from almighty god, only on whom we can rely for the justice now a days. RIP

@BhakSala,mangalore,you Need not give a strict order to a NRI,not to drive in India and instructions to them.weil they Need not practice high Speed in India, because roads are not meant to drive H:Speed.Dont push the fault to others before you know the Facts.Do you know how many locals self causing accident, driving drunk, drugs intus? Here give instructions first to the parents of that Boy who drove without licence I am sure, for killing a innocent Person, and if at all you have the Position of giving the strict instructions, put both father and son in jail ,let them give the compansations to the Family of deceased.Heartfelt sympathy to the Family of deceased.May his Soul rest in peace.

Our legal system is so weak so there is no value for human life, there is no fear in the mind of people, same leads to think "might is right" and "money can purchase anything" Same will give place for jungle raj in the society.
Make this minor as well his parents as accountable for this crime, give rigorous punishment, reduce age limit of minors in Juvenal act.But our legislators are busy in planning how to accumulate asset for next election cost!!

Minor means license to kill. Nirbhay's rapist also got away with rape and murder.
