Two Hizbul militants killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar, April 7 (IANS): Two Hizbul Mujahideen guerrillas were killed on Thursday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said.

The militants were killed in Veehil village of Shopian district, a senior police officer told IANS here.

"The slain militants have been identified as Wasim Malla and Nasir Pandit," he said.

"Nasir was a former police constable who had decamped with his service rifle and later joined the militant ranks. He belonged to Karimabad village of Pulwama district," the police officer added.

He said troops of counter-insurgency unit Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group (SOG) of state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out the operation which lasted barely half-an-hour.
