New Delhi/Colombo, Oct 8: A senior official of India's external intelligence agency - Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) - has been recalled from Sri Lanka for alleged connection with a foreign woman suspected to be working for a Chinese intelligence agency.

Ravi Nair, a 1975 batch RAS officer, dismissed the allegation as "utter rubbish."

Nair managed to get consecutive foreign postings despite being under the scanner for a long time, sources in New Delhi said.

During his posting in Hong Kong, Nair had met a "foreign friend" (woman) believed to be working for a Chinese spy agency. This prompted the authorities to ask him to come back.

However, the officer was given a posting in Colombo where the woman also came and allegedly started staying with him, raising suspicion, the sources said. Nair had reportedly had the "patronage" of some officials in the power corridor, they added.

The officials of other departments, posted at the Indian High Commission, sent reports about Nair to their respective departments paving way for his recall.

When contacted in Colombo, Nair said that the charge against him "is utter rubbish."

"We are all dedicated people working for the Government of India and that will always continue," he said.
