Udupi, Oct 8: Coastal Karnataka and underworld have always somehow remained hand in hand at various times for a number of reasons. Now once again the underworld is making news in the coastal area here. A timber merchant in Kanchinadka near Padubidri has lodged a complaint with the police that Ravi Poojary, a notorious underworld don, has threatened him with life by sending his gangsters to his house on Sunday, October 7.

Two persons, said to be the associates of Ravi Poojary, landed at the house of Mohammed Haneef, a timber merchant here along with revolvers on Sunday night. Earlier, it is said, Ravi Poojary had called over phone and demanded Rs 5 crore from Mohammed Haneef, otherwise he would have to risk his life.

Suspected Gunmen

When the armed gunmen entered Mohammad's house, the inmates started screaming for help.  Hearing them a few neighbours gathered around the house to help them.  Seeing this, the miscreants fled the spot.

Interestingly, when Mohammad Haneef reached Padubidri police station along with his children to lodge complaint, Ravi Poojary called on his mobile and repeated the threat.

The police have begun probing the case from various angles. At the same time, they have started identifying the associates of Ravi Poojary. On the other hand, they are checking the genuineness of this case. One can recall that a few months ago, some locals had threatened a businessman of the area, claiming to do so on Ravi Poojary's behalf. Meanwhile the police have released the graphic pictures of suspected gunmen who came to Mohammad's house on Sunday.
