Mangalore, Oct 9: Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) led by stalwarts B S Yediyurappa and Anant Kumar took out a protest rally against JD(S) in city on Tuesday.
Overwhelmed by the grand reception received by them in the city, the leaders expressed their confidence of winning the coming assembly election with absolute majority. Thousands of BJP supporters gathered at the Nehru Maidan to listen to their leaders.
The leaders reached Nehru Maidan in a procession taken out from party's district office on open vehicles. BJP supporters from different parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada gathered in huge numbers to listen to the leaders.
Addressing the huge crowd, party state president D V Sadananda Gowda challenged H D Deve Gowda and his sons to face the wrath of the people in the coming assembly election for not keeping the words given to BJP.
Sadananda Gowda called voters to teach a lesson to JD(S) which did not keep its words given to the party to allow BJP to rule the state for the second half. He urged the voters of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada to support BJP as election is expected to be held after six months.
Former deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa reiterated that it was because of the projects announced by him during the budget that the JD(S)-BJP coalition party gained popularity. Expressing his concern over the false statements given by JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, Yediyurappa said that he is ready to quit politics if the allegations leveled against him are proved right. He said his party is ready to face election even if it is held in next month.
BJP national general secretary Anant Kumar expressed confident of winning more than 150 seats in the coming assembly polls. Terming former prime minister H D Deve Gowda a modern Bhasmasura, Aanant Kumar said he will go to the people seeking justice.
Former ministers Jagadish Shettar, D H Shankar Murthy, Dr V S Acharya, B Nagaraja Shetty, Shivananda Nayak, Ramachandra Gowda, MLC Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi and South Kanara district presidents of the party Kota Srinivas Poojary and Monappa Bhandary respectively and others were present on the occasion.
Thousands of BJP supporters raised slogans, burst crackers and cheered throughout the procession and at the ground. Police were finding it difficult to control the crowd as road blocks created problems for the people.
