Karkala, Apr 13: Secretary of Christ King Education Trust here, Avelin Louis, informed at a press conference held here recently that the silver jubilee celebrations of Christ Kind group of educational institutions will be held at Gandhi Maidan here on April 14 and 15.
"These institutions, which were set up under the leadership of the late Fr F P S Monis, are currently functioning under the functionaries of the trust, Avelin Louis, Dr Peter Fernandes, Walter D'Souza, and Lucy D'Lima. The institutions, which began with LKG in 1989-90, have grown through the years with the addition of Christ King Play School, Christ King Kinder Garten School, Christ King English medium lower primary school, Christ King English medium higher primary school, Christ King English medium high school, Christ King PU College, and Christ King Technical Education in Computers. Over 2,000 students are pursuing education in these institutions," he explained.
He informed that on the occasion of silver jubilee celebrations, a new, well-equipped building has been constructed for the primary section. Inaugural of newly provided facilities like play station, taluk's first ever children's park, main welcome tower, quality food canteen, books stall, fresh juice centre etc will be inaugurated soon. Free CET training facility has also been initiated, he added.
The silver jubilee function, which will be presided over by the priest of Christ King church here, Fr Josvy Fernandes, will be attended by ministers, Vinay Kumar Sorake and Ramanath Rai, educationists, N Vinay Hegde and Dr Mohan Alva, entrepreneur, Nadoja Dr G Shankar, MP, Shobha Karandlaje, legislators, Sunil Kumar, J R Lobo and Ivan D'Souza, former MLA, K S Mohammed Masood, Udupi zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Mary Francis, and deputy director of public instruction, H Diwakar Shetty, in the capacity of chief guests. Before the beginning of the programme, a procession accompanied by variety tableaux will be taken from Ananthashayana to the venue of the function at 4 pm. At 9 am that day, municipal president, Anita R Abnchan, will hoist the flag, he explained.
The function being held at 6 pm on April 15 under the presidentship of Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Fr Dr Jerald Issac Lobo, will be attended by MPs, Dr M Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes, Harshendra Kumar Heggade from Dharmasthala, state ministers, U T Khader, and K Abhaychandra Jain, NRI entrepreneurs, Ronald Colaco and Richard Lobo, MLA, Pratapchandra Shetty, former MLA, H Gopal Bhandary, and district superintendent of police, Annamalai, Before that a procession will be organized at 4.30 pm from Christ King Church, followed by benedictory address by Bishop Jerald Issac Lobo, he added.
A programme of mesmerizing magic by Kudroli Ganesh and dance performance by Bhargavi Arts and Dance Academy Udupi will be presented on April 14. On April 15, musical extravaganza will be presented by Gurukian, he added.
Trustee, Walter D'Souza, and principal, Prof Narayan Shedikaje were present at the press conference.
