Mangalore, Oct 11: Over the past few days, rumours of oil slick from the Eritrean ship MV DenDen, which had sunk off Tannirbavi beach here in June last, have been in circulation.
Some locals had reported that sea water in the area had turned black. In the wake of people's fears, the police and officials of different departments visited Tannirbavi on Tuesday night and assessed situation. Since some oil content was detected in the sea water, the attention of the pollution control board has been drawn.

The Panambur police has said the pollution control board officials are likely to visit the spot on Thursday and analyse water samples from the sea.
The district administration has taken precautionary measures to meet with any situation that could be created by a possible oil slick. Even a fire brigade team has been camping on the beach to keep watch.
