New Delhi, Apr 14 (Agencies) : Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said today that he had the ability to handle "whatever comes my way" and added: "I did not need Priyanka to enhance my life, I think I had enough. My parents gave me enough."
Speaking to the news agency ANI at the Delhi Golf Club, Mr Vadra also responded to a question he has been asked many times - on joining politics - with a firm: "Never say never".
The 46-year-old businessman has two children with Priyanka Gandhi, whom he married in 1997.
"It has been 20 years to be a part of this family but it won't take me 20 years to join politics," he said. "I will join politics only if I can make a difference. I will keep writing on topics, no matter what people think or say about it."
Mr Vadra has campaigned in the past for Sonia Gandhi and also brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi in their constituencies in Uttar Pradesh but he never made speeches. Asked whether he planned a more active role in politics, he said: "I have never given a thought about what I am going to do in life."
In 2014, he kept a low profile while being repeatedly targeted by the BJP over his controversial land deals in Haryana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took several digs at 'Damad Shri (son-in-law)" in his rallies in the state.
Soon after taking power in Haryana, the BJP set up an inquiry into a clutch of land deals near Delhi including that involving Mr Vadra's company.
Over the past two years, Mr Vadra has used his Facebook page to hit back.
"I was born and brought up here, I would never leave my country even if I am humiliated. No matter what the government says, I have the ability to sustain and to absorb. I have a very strong and good family which gives me strength," he said.
