Mangaluru, Apr 14: Dakshina Kannada district administration in collaboration with Social Welfare Department and Mangalore City Corporation celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar at Town Hall here on Thursday April 14.

After paying floral tributes were offered, district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said, "Dr B R Ambedkar strived profoundly for social equality and to abolish the caste system. Through the constitution, Ambedkar emphasized on casteless social equality in society. To rid society of social equality and caste discrimination, the government has implemented various programmes. Ambedkar has dreamt on framing a casteless society."

He also said that the state government has provided various developmental programmes for dalits through the social welfare department towards development and social equality.

On construction of Ambedkar Bhavan, Rai added that the government has approved the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan. At the next cabinet meeting on April 26, we will get financial approval and the foundation stone for the building will be laid during the CM's visit to the city.

Health minister U T Khader said, "Constitution is a sacred text for Indians. Constitution has provided liberty and freedom for individuals in the country. When one does good work for the country or society, it is patriotism. Social equality and casteless society were thought of by Dr B R Ambedkar.

On the occasion MLA J R Lobo, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Ibrahim Kodijal, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, ZP CEO Shrividhya, SD Sharanappa SP, police commissioner Chandrasekhar and others were present.
