Panaji, Oct 12: Internationally acclaimed musician Remo Fernandes has said that Indian fusion music stands good chance on the world canvass but, sadly, its prospects are hampered due to inappropriate backing.

"Pure Indian music could not (not) get into international mainstream for obvious reasons. However, fusion music could stand a good chance, but one would require excellent backing in the form of agents, managers and record companies – and sadly, this kind of backing is badly lacking in India," Remo stated.

The singer, who performed on the inaugural and closing days of incredible India @ 60 event in US, said that such a backing is mandatory for the Indian fusion music to make waves worldwide.

Remo, a versatile singer known for his contributions to Hindi cinema and also fusion music, did not missed opportunity in US to present few of his choicest songs to the audience.

After the concerts, Remo is holidaying in US and is currently in West Virginia after visiting Smoky Mountains .

"There is a very special sensation when you are representing your country abroad. It brings about a sense of nationalistic pride, and a deep feeling of responsibility – after all, an artiste's performance and behaviour can subtly influence a foreign audience's impression of his country," the singer said when asked about his experience of performing for the country abroad.

He said that playing with the full band for the first time in the USA , that too in the centre of New York City , was very exhilarating.

"And it was particularly exciting to see and hear the audience's reactions… frankly, standing ovations and encores were the last thing we expected in NY! It felt fulfilling, gratifying, and looking at the sky through the famous NY skyscrapers brought us a lot of emotion as our concerts ended," the singer mentioned.

Remo said that he is not looking out for any contracts during his current trip as it is his time to travel around after hard day's work.
