Ajax and PSV neck and neck in Dutch title race


The Hague, Apr 18 (IANS): AFC Ajax drew 2-2 at home against FC Utrecht to go equal on points with PSV Eindhoven with three match rounds remaining in the Eredivisie football league.

Nacer Barazite on Sunday earned Utrecht the lead in the 56th minute and six minutes from time Patrick Joosten's shot seemed to give the visitors the victory. However, Davy Klaassen managed to narrow the margin to one, reports Xinhua.

With a disputable penalty, after a tackle by Willem Janssen on Arek Milik, Ajax even got the chance to equalise from the penalty spot and Milik did in 89th minute.

On Saturday reigning champions PSV booked a 3-0 victory at Roda JC Kerkrade in a match that was less difficult than expected. Luuk de Jong headed in cross by Jetro Willems to open the scoring in the 10th minute and De Jong also headed in his second goal on an assist by Luciano Narsingh in the 59th minute. A shot by Davy Propper made it 3-0 nine minutes from time.

With three match rounds remaining Ajax and PSV are on both on 75 points, but Ajax still lead with a better goal difference. Ajax visit SC Heerenveen next time and also have to play FC Twente (home) and De Graafschap (away), while PSV host Vitesse and have to play SC Cambuur (home) and PEC Zwolle (away) as well.

Also on Saturday Feyenoord drew 1-1 at home against FC Groningen, with Michael de Leeuw giving the visitors the lead and Tonny Vilhena equalising with a header. Vitesse and Heracles Almelo drew 1-1 in Arnhem.

With four goals, including two penalties, Dutch international Vincent Janssen led AZ Alkmaar to a 5-1 victory over PEC Zwolle. Janssen now leads the Eredivisie top scorers list with 25 goals, followed by Luuk de Jong with 22 goals.

Feyenoord Rotterdam look steady on the fourth place with 56 points, followed by AZ (50), FC Utrecht (50), Heracles Almelo (49) and Vitesse (45).
