Beltangady, Oct 16: In order to lay a parallel electricity line from Nagarjuna Thermal Power plant for supplying 400 kv power to Shanthi village in Hassan, a confidential survey is reported to have been carried out here, sources informed.
On becoming aware of the survey, the villagers here have started protests across the district and various organizations have expressed their support to the protest. The sources further said that survey have been conducted in Kowkradi, Aladangadi, Nada, Kanyadi, Mittabagilu, Indabettu, Mundaje, Kakkinje and other villages without bringing this issue to the notice of revenue department or the Gram Panchayat concerned, local MLA and other elected representatives.
This parallel line work will affect the houses, plantations and crops of hundreds of people besides being a threat to normal life and the said line will also damage National Monument Jamalabad apart from harm to birds and animals or the entire environment was the apprehension expressed by the villagers.
A demand has been made for a face to face negotiation, by the Beltangady taluk panchayat, Sarvodaya Trust of Navoor Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Bharatiya Jantha Party and if this matter is not sorted out, there will also be taluk-level protests, they warned.
APMC vice-president Subhaschandra Rai is the convener, while Jeevandhar Kumar, Balakrishna Shetty, Namadev Rao will be assistant conveners. P K Raju Poojary Peradi, Mahesh Shettty Timarodi, Ramanna Shetty, Dr Shashidhar Dongre, Keshav Belalu, Vinay Kumar Semitha and Ganesh Suvarna will be present.
