Mangalore, Oct 17: The executive committee of Karnataka Coastal Fishermen (KCF) has opposed the formation of proposed Coastal Zone Management (CZM), replacing the existing Coastal Regulatory Zone.

This was stated in a press release issued by Vasudev Boloor, secretary of the executive committee of Karnataka Coastal Fishermen.   Quoting Prof M N Swaminathan's report on the same, he stated that CZM would prove harmful for the fishermen.  Since it is necessary to protect the fisheries living along the coastal belt and their interests, the executive committee of the KCF opposes forming of CZM, he added.

Forming of CZM is intended towards evicting all colonies of fishermen along the coastal belt.  Opposing this, a nation-wide protest will be held on World Fishermen Day on November 21, the release informed.
