Karkala, Oct 17: Public and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike members laid siege to and staged dharma against a local nursing home here on Tuesday October 16 alleging the great negligence by doctors that resulted in the death of a pregnant woman.

Rajani Hegde (24), wife of Sudhir Hegde, a resident of Bhairampalli was admitted into the nursing home as she developed labour pain at 9.30 am on Monday October 15. But she might have died after she was allegedly injected with wrong vaccination, the agitators alleged.

Family members of Rajani assert that wrong vaccination and negligence were the cause of death.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Manjunath Kini, head of the nursing home said the causes for the death are yet to be clarified and it was not owing to negligence by the hospital staff as alleged by the agitators.

The situation came under control as doctors of the nursing home held talks with the agitators and declared that compensation will be paid by the nursing home to Rajani's family.
