Kundapur, Oct 17: Ananda (54), son of Koraga Gurikara and Krishna (41), son of Koraga Gurikara were arrested by Valentine D'Souza, circle inspector, Kundapur police station and assistants here on Tuesday October 16, in connection with the murder case of Paddu Mogerthi (59) that took place in the evening of Sunday October 14.
As reported earlier, Paddu Mogerti, a fisheries woman was strangled to death on Sunday while she was on her way back home after selling fish at Koravadi Cross. Her body was later found in a pond at Hatti Hitlu here.
The arrested happen to be Paddu Mogerti's own brothers, who are now in police custody. The primary investigations have revealed that she was killed by the accused for the land dispute.
The police had initiated an immediate enquiry to crack the mystery of the murder. The subsequent investigation threw a startling fact that Paddu's brothers were the actual murderers. Accordingly, police subjected them to thorough investigation and the brothers immediately spilled the beans.
Police had strong doubts over the brothers as they had a land dispute with Paddu for long. But locals said that it had been solved recently. However, it was not favourable to Ananda and Krishna. The police's doubt was further strengthened with the fact that all the jewelleries and ornaments that Paddu wore were safe on her body. So it was confirmed that murder was not intended towards robbing Paddu. So when the police finally zeroed in on the brothers, the entire episode came to light.
It came to be learnt during investigations that Paddu had five brothers who are living at Koravadi. Paddu had been living with her husband and children in the place belonging to ancestors. She never gave her consent to hand-over the property to her brothers. The brothers also said that they were irked with the fact that Paddu and her family never invited them for any functions and also kept them at a distance from the ancestral house.
Meanwhile the locals have applauded the police for cracking the case within two days and nabbing the accused.
