Swamy demands discussion in Rajya Sabha on paid news

New Delhi, April 29 (IANS): Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Friday sought a discussion in the upper house of parliament on "paid news".

Swamy, raising the issue in the upper house during Zero Hour, said a report from the Standing Committee on Information and Technology had dealt with the issues arising from paid news. "This paid news has acquired the character of cancer," Swamy said.

"In the AgustaWestland deal also, one channel published a contract signed with a middleman with a company for managing the India press for producing favourable reports on the deal," he said.

"This is such an important matter, it should be discussed in a short duration discussion in the house," he added.
