Bengaluru, Apr 30: Some parched districts of the state got good rain coupled with lightning and thunder on Friday April 29. While the showers brought back smiles on the faces of people, lightning pushed some families down the abyss of grief by claiming some lives.

On Friday afternoon, Vijayapura city and nearby areas got good rain. A shepherd, identified as Siddu Karade (52) from Ittangihala village in Vijayapura taluk, who was grazing his sheep in a forest region near Athalatti was killed due to lghtning. In Ballari district, where too rainfall was experienced, a farmer, Gonal Ningappa (55), who was fitting pipeline to the borewell dug in his field died due to lightning. He was from Nallapur village.

Three persons from the same family, Adarsh Alagur (45), Anantamati Adarsh Alagur (38), and Darshan Adarsh Alagur (16) died due to lightning when working in their fields at Savadi village in Athani taluk, Belagavi district.

In the meanwhile, one each died in Chamarajanagara, Hungund, and Pavagada due to heat wave. Mallappa (75) a resident of Kenchaganahalli in Pavagada taluk, Rama Shetty (58) from Taggalur village in Chamarajanagar district, and Raju BVasappa Madar (10) from Hungund taluk in Bagalkot district died due to to heat stroke.

The meteorological condition has predicted the present heat conditions to prevail through the month of May. A number of reservoirs which were expected to meet drinking water requirements of the people have reached dead storage level, adding to the woes of the people.
